A Perfect Day @ The Queens World Film Festival 2014
Good Afternoon all,
Just wanted to share my thoughts about the Perfect Day team being part of the Queens World Film Festival this past weekend (Friday March 7th).
Queens World was broken up by locations throughout Queens. At first, I was confused but the staff provided a detailed schedule online that we were able to take a look at weeks before coming out to New York.
When I finally got to the Secret Theatre (which was where our screening was being held), there was a nice crowd, warm hugs, firm handshakes and people being tossed (politely) around for photos in front of the step & repeat (AKA Festival banner).
After a few moments of chatting, we were all ushered into this cute, intimate black box space. After a few moments of everyone taking their seats, the husband and wife founders, Katha and Don Cato said a few words. They were hilarious! Katha jumped in a photo with my friend and I too! She was so sweet.
Once the festival started, everyone fell into the stories, the characters, the moments on screen. There is no better feeling than people reacting how you hoped that they would to your film. There was a slight technical difficulty (hey, it happens) so the festival assistant announced a brief intermission halfway through. After the intermission, we continued on with the films. The screenings (about 7 shorts) lasted almost 2 hours.
Shortly after the last short film was screened, there was a Q&A. Derrick Sanders (Writer/Director of A Perfect Day), myself, another director and his lead actor came up to speak. The audience asked well rounded questions about both of our films and we all received amazing feedback. I was excited.
There was to be an after party afterwards, but some of us stayed around after to chat.
Overall, the festival was amazing. I’d probably rank it my 2nd favorite this year so far for us. We did have two award nominations for “Best Director” as well as “Best Lead Actor”. Although we were not awarded for those nominations, we did receive Honorable Mention for “Best Narrative”. Just being a part of the magic was good enough for me.
Thanks again to the cast, crew and to all of our supporters of “A Perfect Day”. Next up, we are part of the Boston International Film Festival (my home city!) on Thursday April 17th. Stay tuned 🙂
