Perfect Day @ The Boston International Film Festival
22 April 2014
Good Morning all,
Just wanted to continue sharing my thoughts about the film festivals that we have been featured in.
This time, the Boston International Film Festival! I have a slight bias because Boston is my homecity.
Just as I suspected, the festival was fairly small and didn’t advertise well within the city but more so in surrounding areas such as Cambridge and Brookline. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it was still pretty small. The Festival was held at the AMC/Lowes across from the beautiful, infamous Boston Commons. The location was perfect. And we were being screened in an actual theatre, with Hollywood films next door. Sometimes, festivals use a completely different area to showcase independent films.
Most of the audience were made up of my family and a few friends. It was almost like I was giving them a private screening, with perhaps ten random people spread out.
The Q & A was super short, about 5 minutes. There was one other filmmaker/producer there by the name of Marcy Cravat. She screened a documentary called, “Angel Azul”. The documentary was about an innovative artist, Jason deCaires Taylor that explores art and environmental solution. Throughout the process, the filmmakers discovered the severe issue with the pollution in the water. I encourage you to definitely check out more information about Angel Azul here: http://www.angelazulthemovie.com/index.php
Pictures were taken afterwards with a very small step and repeat that was set up with a red carpet. There was no one part of the head festival team that greeted us, no introduction, or even suggestions about our individual films. Perhaps, the head administrators were more concerned with filmmakers with more precedence. Either way, it was fun for what it was. I would just suggest much better advertising for the upcoming years.
Next up, Perfect Day will be featured at the Maryland International Film Festival in Hagerstown in May and then the Montreal Black Film Festival in September.
Look out for us! We will be cooking up some new work later in the year 🙂
Again, Derrick and I continue to thank our entire cast, crew and all supporters. Until next time!
